building performance & site sustainability

The four proposals shown here vary in site, scale, and intention but they all share one common challenge—needing to perform within a context of intensive heat and dry desert conditions. Each of the four proposals consists of a contextual design idea, material approach and the integration of key sustainable design principals that support the buildings to be offgrid and as self-sustaining as possible.

The diagrams below condense research and key themes related to aspects of both performance and potential material innovation.

The Roth Architecture Sustainable Design team addressed:

Climate and context, site and infrastructure, construction means and methods, energy management, water management, waste and recycling, circular materials, healthy design and IEQ, biodiversity and landscape, transportation, and resiliency.

A high level performance proposal resulted for all four sites and design options after evaluating potential challenges and opportunities.
