Liz has been a faculty member at the Academy of Art in San Francisco since 2019, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate sustainable design courses and acts as a technical adviser within the architecture degree programs. Additional teaching positions that she has held have focused on the intersection of sustainability and the built environment at Columbia University GSAPP, Columbia’s School of Professional Practice, the Earth Institute, and The New School’s Continuing and Professional Education Program.
Her teaching work prioritizes deep contextual analysis paired with conversations on historic and modern cultural vernaculars, impact of material section, building performance and simulation tutorials, and analysis of larger scale impacts of the design decisions made.
Liz can teach skills within a variety of software ranging in difficulty level and technical aptitude. Primary software tutorials and workshops include teaching on Climate Consultant, ClimateStudio, COMFEN, Sefaira, and Ladybug Tools. To support her teaching in these simulation tools, Liz supports students in working within Rhinoceros 3D and Revit. For larger scale analysis including urban and regional studies, Liz supports students through the use of ArcGIS and ArcMAP tools. Within her classes, she supports students in understanding and interpreting a variety of standards and building certification programs including USGBC LEED, the Living Building Challenge (LBC), and the WELL Building Standard.
